Fishing

Ullswater is a renowned lake for good fishing. Whether a keen fly fisherman or course fisherman, the lake has it all. Good catches of several species are reported back to us by customers. Over the past two to three years, the fishing has improved immensely drawing people from far afield.

The good fishing areas are relatively difficult to access due to trees, the terrain and private ownership. At the north end, using a boat enables you to fish the best drifts due to the predominantly onshore wind. A boat also enables you to fish the coves near the middle and south end of the lake which are normally only accessible on foot after a good mile trek. Fish species include brown trout, perch, salmon and eels.

A FREE one day rowing boat hire voucher will be given to any angler that catches an elusive pike in Ullswater. Over the years, we have heard many stories from fishermen and divers regarding the elusive pike, but as yet have never seen or recorded a catch.

We have a fully equipped fishing boat for hire which can be supplied with or without a gilly. The boat and gilly are available by prior telephone booking only. Fishing equipment is also available for hire. Prior notice is appreciated.
